The Australian story so far

Following the 2005 Phillip Island Classic, HHRacing founder Keith Hurricane Higgs was offered the chance to go and work in Sydney, and so in April 2005 he packed up and left the UK bound for Sydney, Australia. The bikes however were left behind under the care of George and Martin, with a plan to send them out in the container for 2006 Phillip Island Classic.

In 2005, Keith did not race other than the PI Classic in January, and one event at Pembrey in August of that year during one of the trips back to the UK.

The container with the UK team bikes including Keith's two P&M's, duly left in November 2005. Sadly, it did not make it to Australia, but got severely delayed and the container was eventually off loaded and shipped back to the UK from Singapore as it had missed the Island Classic and the UK team needed their bikes back urgently for the 2006 season.

In 2006, Keith rode Roger 'Kwikfit' Quinlan's Moriwaki Kawasaki and on it won the PCRA NSW Forgotten Era Unlimited Championship on unfamiliar tracks. To be fair the opposition all stayed at home that year. He also had a few rides on Roger's ZXR750 in the New Era 2 class.

During 2006, Keith's brace of P&M Kawasaki's arrived from the UK and were modified to meet Motorcycling Australia rules for Forgotten Era bikes. This included moving to 41 mm forks, Lockheed twin piston calipers and non floating discs, and  4.5 inch rear wheel. Subsequently, some RG500 MK V replica floating discs (only floaters allowed by MA) were made by Optical Discs in Albury, and fitted to both bikes.

The first forks fitted were Yamaha items from an FJ1100. These were too long and way too soft, with nowhere near enough damping. They only lasted one meeting at Eastern Creek before being consigned to ebay!! They were truly scary. Replacements were more carefully considered. The final choice were Honda forks from a more sporting model 250 model but still meeting MA requirements. They were sourced from Danny Deste at Metropolitans. With assistance from Steve Cutting at Motorcycle Weaponary, these were made to work exceedingly well (heavier springs, thicker oil).

Before modification, in 2006, Keith rode his P&Ms in selected PCRA events in the New Era 1 class, and had some fun dicing with the FZR1000s and GSXR750s. Having spent best part of 6 months at sea (two and from PI and then back to SYdney), both bikes needed a lot of TLC to fix gummed up carbs, corroded electrics etc. Help came from Big Boy Evan Pitkin who provided much needed help in the garage and the pits.

In 2007, aboard his favourite P&Ms., Keith again won the PCRA NSW F/Era Unlimited Championship. This time though there was stiff competition from Jason Patterson on the Quinlan Moriwaki and various others including Richard Easton (Suzuki GSX1100), Bob Marriner and Murray Mackne (both CB1100R). Evan Pitkin volunteered to help with the spanners and did a great job.

All three crossed the line with nothing more that a few inches between us - oherr missus

2008 was another successful year with the PCRA and Keith again won the F/Era Unlimited Championshp, although the opposition was a bit thin on the ground again. A race win in the Tokyo Express at the Barry Sheene memorial meeting was had. At the Island Classis, Keith noticed all the fast boys were using either Dunlop or Michelin slicks. A swap to Dunlops was tried and Keith discovered these work much better on the P&M's than the Bridgestones, with good improvements in lap times at all circuits thereafter! In the garage this time were Paul Wombat Fiddler Rachow, Mark Surebet Shurety, Rob Roche and Mike Paddleshift Nunan.

Also in 2008, BigBoy Evan Pitkin rode the #2 bike to 2nd in the PCRA Championship to give HHRacing a 1 - 2.

HHRacing 1 and 2 on the grid!

C'mon Ev!!!!
